Q: How can I grow my hair longer, it seems to keep breaking off

A: This is such a common topic in the hair chair as most of us color or highlight our long hair.  

EAT A HEALTHY DIET:

Eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins, especially those essential for hair health like vitamins A, C, D, E, biotin, and omega-3 fatty acids. Taking a daily supplement like Nutrifol is a great idea.

HYDRATE:

Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

AVOID EXCESS HEAT:

We all love to curl and smooth our hair but they suck the moisture right out of it! However, blow dryers, as long as they are made with a good quality, strong blowing motor are far less damaging than the heat from any iron. Ideally, choose a few days a week to give your hair a styling break.  If you must wash it every day, let it air dry with a light coating of oil or serum

GENTLE HAIR BRUSHING:

Brushing and combing as gently as possible when hair is colored or highlighted to prevent extra breakage with a soft brush like a Wet Brush Pro.

GET REGULAR TRIMS:

Every 6-8 weeks, visit the salon to remove split ends which prevents them from traveling up the hair shaft and causing more breakage.  Also, avoid washing every day.  Try every other day!

USE SOFT HAIR TIES:

Please ditch the rubbery bands that we all love.  They cause tension and snag the hair which causes breakage, especially at night while sleeping!  Buy a pack of scrunchies and do a quick braid instead!
